Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman Abraham Roman, was the 3rd daughter in their family. As a child, Ruth Roman's carnival-barker father passed away and made her mother Mary Pauline (Gold), to become an attendant or cleaner to help them survive. Ruth grew in a poor Boston tenement neighborhood, Massachusetts. She was a student there. Her school was closed in two years in order to study acting. This path was fraught with difficulties. After landing a gig at New York as a model for a detective magazine, she had a difficult time trying to get jobs for stage. Then, after a time as a club hat girl and a club hat girl, she made the decision to go to her home in Massachusetts and leave her job. It was there that she earned a living as an usherette by day, and at night performed with the New England Repertory Company. This was her very first role as an actor. She also studied drama and later graduated from the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
